AI transcription and human services are different purchases
HappyScribe offers AI transcription and subtitling alongside separately purchased human services. This makes it relevant to people comparing not only software features, but also who will be responsible for reviewing the resulting text.
Our assessment: choose the production model before comparing subscription labels. If your team will correct the draft, evaluate the AI workflow and its exports. If another person must review the text, define that service’s scope: wording, speaker attribution, subtitle timing and translation are different tasks. Paying for human involvement does not by itself tell you which of those deliverables is included.
Basic is paid; the AI trial is not a recurring free plan
The documented Basic tier is a paid AI plan with 120 monthly minutes. Annual billing allocates usage differently. The free AI transcription allowance is a ten-minute trial, distinct from the meeting-recording offer discussed on the same help page.
For a recurring workflow, calculate usage from the original recordings you expect to submit in the actual billing period. Include replacement versions rather than budgeting only for the final approved edit. A trial is useful for evaluating a sample; it should not be the foundation of a monthly production budget or be labelled as an ongoing free transcription service in a finder.
HappyScribe’s plan documentation differentiates output formats. Basic includes SRT and captioned-video export, while additional formats such as VTT are assigned to Pro. A provider-wide list of supported formats therefore does not establish entitlement on the lowest paid tier.
Start with the receiving system or client specification. If the brief requires VTT, compare a tier that actually includes it or a different workflow with documented support.
